1 in 7 people in Pinellas County are food insecure. That is a staggering 134,000 people in a county with a population of under 1 million. Even more frightening is the fact that 1 in 4 children may go to bed hungry tonight in our community. In the city of St. Petersburg alone, that is over 10,000 children. What’s worse? Hunger is a solvable problem.
The Two Hangry Chicks mission is to raise awareness, create a dialogue and inspire action in the fight against local and global hunger. Over the past 3 years, the Chicks have facilitated large scale meal packaging events (think 150 volunteers and 20,000+ meals!), hosted monthly family friendly service projects, developed curriculums for home school groups and girls scout troops, and come up with many creative activities to get the Tampa Bay community engaged in fighting hunger.
The goal, however, is not only to feed the hungry, but to encourage a culture of helping one’s neighbors, foster service as a family activity, and create a dialogue about how we, as a community, can build a local food system that allows everyone to live food secure..
With the Tribe behind them, Two Hangry Chicks is ready to take the next step…
